"Maturity is a high price to pay for growing up." - Tom Stoppard
I spent all my childhood wondering when I would grow up. The world of adults was so fascinating for me. Everytime the class monitor wrote the quote "Childhood is the golden period of one's life", I sat wondering what was so special about childhood. The world of children seemed silly and stupid to me even though I too was a child. I couldn't wait for the day I could grow older.
The years flew by and before I even realised it, I had grown up. This was not what I thought the world of adults to be. Why do I have to be constantly criticised and judged for every act, every word? Why do I feel lonely even though I stand amidst a great crowd? Why are people always talking behind my back? Why is there so much deceit and betrayal? Looking back at the little me who wanted to be an adult, I realised that, now, I was lonely like her. Some people never fit in anywhere. It is their own world that suits them the best.
